Frequently asked questions

Common questions about Skratch Skin Tracker.

Is Skratch Skin Tracker a medical device?

No. Skratch Skin Tracker is a self-tracking and signposting tool. It does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Concern levels and risk estimates are organisational aids based on the information you enter — they are not clinical assessments. Always consult a healthcare professional for medical advice.

Where is my data stored?

All health data — symptom logs, photos, treatments, contacts, quiz results, and AI conversations — is stored only on your device. Nothing is uploaded to any server. If you create an optional account for Signal Sharing, only an anonymous concern-level string is stored online, never your health details, symptoms, or photos.

Do I need to create an account?

No. Every feature works without an account — symptom tracking, photo documentation, treatment logging, the self-check quiz, Skratch Intelligence, GP summary export, and contact management. An optional Sign in with Apple account is only needed for Signal Sharing, which lets linked contacts receive anonymous nudges when your concern level changes.

What is Skratch Intelligence?

Skratch Intelligence is an in-app assistant you can ask questions about scabies symptoms, treatments, medications, and next steps. It draws from authoritative public health sources and is context-aware, offering relevant suggestions based on your current situation. It also includes a searchable library of guided answers on common topics. It does not provide diagnoses and is not a substitute for professional medical advice.

What are concern levels?

Your concern level is derived from data you enter — symptom check-ins, photo logs, and the self-check quiz. There are three levels: “All clear” (no pattern of concern), “Monitor symptoms” (some indicators worth watching), and “Limit close contact” (a stronger pattern that suggests seeking professional advice). These are organisational labels, not clinical assessments.

How does the contact web work?

You can add close contacts and set their relationship type (partner, housemate, friend, classmate/colleague, or other) and their status. You can also link contacts to each other and optionally specify how they know one another. The app uses this information to organise a risk estimate across the network, helping you understand which contacts might benefit from awareness. Risk estimates are not diagnoses.

How does Signal Sharing work?

With an optional Sign in with Apple account, you can generate an invite code and share it with a close contact who also uses Skratch Skin Tracker. Once linked, if your concern level changes, they receive a private in-app nudge — no health details are shared, just that they may want to seek advice. You can unlink or delete your account at any time, and all server-side data is permanently removed.

How does treatment tracking work?

You can log which treatment you’re using and the date of each application. The app tracks your second-application window and can send reminders if you enable treatment notifications. After treatment, a recovery self-check helps you assess whether symptoms are resolving. Your full treatment history is preserved even if you reset for a new episode.

Can I export my data for a doctor?

Yes. The GP Summary feature generates a PDF containing your symptom timeline, treatment history, self-check results, and concern level. It includes only clinically relevant information and is formatted for healthcare professionals. You can share it with your GP, pharmacist, dermatologist, or sexual health clinic.

Is analytics data collected?

Only if you explicitly opt in. Analytics is off by default and the toggle is separate from the medical disclaimer. If enabled, only broad app-usage patterns are collected (which screens are visited, which features are used, error types). Symptom details, photos, contacts, AI conversations, quiz answers, and all health information are never collected under any circumstances.

Can I lock the app with Face ID?

Yes. You can enable Face ID (or device passcode) lock in Settings. When enabled, the app requires authentication each time it’s opened, keeping your health data private even if someone has access to your phone.

What regions are supported?

You can set your region in Settings. Options include England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, USA, and Worldwide. Your region determines which medical helplines, health service links, and treatment guidance are shown throughout the app.

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. Photos are stored only in the app’s private storage on your device. They are not saved to your camera roll and not uploaded to any server. The only way a photo leaves the app is if you manually export the GP Summary PDF, which can include photos you’ve attached.

Can I delete all my data?

Yes. “Clear all data” in Settings removes everything from your device: photos, symptom logs, quiz results, contacts, treatments, and preferences. If you have a Signal Sharing account, you’re prompted to delete that too — which permanently removes all server-side data and revokes your Sign in with Apple credential.

Is Skratch Skin Tracker free?

Yes. Skratch Skin Tracker is free to download and use with no in-app purchases, subscriptions, or ads.
